Mono Murmuration

The word murmuration is the a collective noun used to describe a flock of starlings. Mono Murmuration was a project researching the fluid, shimmering movement of murmurations and many other bird groupings and how their characteristics relate to metaphors and meta-narratives in life. Murmurations are constructions of individual birds who respond to each other, propelling intricate chain reactions in in flight. These chain reactions keep the group together, but continuously manipulate its shape as a whole. It is a mesmerizing venture into the micro and macro. These paintings were displayed with the 101 Birds body of work at the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City. As a collective body of work, these paintings and the 101 bird drawings became a murmuration of their own, but always referred back to the individual.
