Sausage & Donut

While exploring themes of desire, memory, time, satisfaction and dissatisfaction, I experimented with painting food, but also with using food as sculpture to further expand on these ideas. This particular arrangement is made of a raw sausage link placed inside the hole of a donut frosted with chocolate and sprinkles. Over the period of its display, time took its course and changed the surfaces, color and form.

Kinetic Sculpture

Process pictures of a kinetic sculpture I built with my two project mates during graduate school. The goal was to use an Arduino board to program a work of art to move on its own and engage more than just our sense of sight. We used a system of motors to flick slinkies connected to speakers which amplified and distorted their metallic sounds. In conjunction, flashlights were used to create abstracted lights and shadows as the slinkies were activated. Inside the speaker box, large erasers connected to spinning motors would randomly spin and flick the slinkies to create the reverberating sounds. Viewers were encouraged to play with the slinkies and experiment with their sonic possibilities as seen in the video below.
